That’s a good message, but I don’t think size zero existed back then.
And why do we need to use Marilyn Monroe to remind girls that they don’t need to be a size zero? She was a woman who was consumed by the fact that she was seen as just a sexual object. Being beautiful was almost a curse for her.
Why can’t we put fake quotes on pictures of Marie Curie or Harriet Tubman? I don’t mean to belittle Marilyn Monroe because I don’t think she was ever really given the chance to do more, but the world is filled with women who are beautiful because of the wonderful and amazing things they do.

Well said. Part of the reason why Marilyn Monroe was so successful is because she exemplified the current beauty standard. She wasn’t flying in the face of convention by being her weight and size. For body beauty standards, she was basically that era’s Megan Fox or Adriana Lima, or whatever other sex icon you can think of that women today try to emulate. Plus she lived an incredibly tumultuous and tortured life. How she’s managed to become the poster child for body acceptance is beyond me. (Not to mention that this quote is completely made up and she never said this. A size 0 WAS considered ugly in her time if we’re talking about widely accepted beauty standards.)

You can call me Ruby.

I am not a dietician, personal trainer, or doctor. I am just someone who adopted a healthy lifestyle and lost weight as a result. It took me over a year to lose my weight and I did it in a healthy way. I do not have an eating disorder, nor do I promote any unhealthy behavior.

Please check out the links on my sidebar before asking questions, since you might find your answer there.

I am no longer able to answer every question I receive. Please check my faq, pages, recently asked questions, and google, before asking. And please don't ask me things that can be answered by simply researching online ;p If you'd like to learn more about me, follow my personal blog: http://rvbyred.tumblr.com/
